Mine Hunt

About Mine Hunt

Mine Hunt is a free online minesweeper puzzle where logic beats luck. A grid of covered squares hides a set number of mines. Click a square to uncover it: if it is safe, it shows a number telling you how many mines touch it, including diagonals. Use those clues to work out where every mine is hiding and uncover all the safe squares to win.

Your first click is always safe, and it usually opens up a large area of the board to give you a starting point. From there it is all deduction. Mine Hunt offers three difficulty levels: Easy with 10 mines on a 9×9 board, Medium with 24 mines on 12×12, and Hard with 40 mines on 14×14. Your fastest time for each is saved so you can keep chasing a new record.

How to Play Mine Hunt

  • Choose Easy, Medium or Hard at the top.
  • Click or tap a square to uncover it. The first click is always safe.
  • A number shows how many of the eight surrounding squares contain a mine.
  • Mark a suspected mine with a right-click, a long-press, or by turning on Flag mode.
  • Click an uncovered number that already has the right number of flags around it to open all its other neighbours at once.
  • Uncover every safe square to win. Uncover a mine and the game ends.

Tips and Strategy for Mine Hunt

Start with the easy patterns. A 1 touching only one covered square means that square is definitely a mine, so flag it. Once a number has all its mines flagged, every other square around it is safe and can be opened. Repeating just these two rules will solve most of an Easy board without a single guess.

On harder boards, learn the famous 1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 patterns along a straight edge. In a 1-2-1 line, the mines are always under the two 1s, never the 2. Working along edges and corners like this is much safer than clicking into the unknown. If you ever reach a true 50/50 guess, take it early rather than late, so a bad guess costs you less time.

FAQ

How do I place a flag on mobile?

Long-press a square for about half a second, or switch on Flag mode so that every tap places or removes a flag.

Can I lose on the first click?

No. Mines are placed only after your first click, and never on or around that square.

Do I have to flag every mine to win?

No. You win as soon as every safe square is uncovered. Flags are just there to help you keep track.
