Capital Quiz

About Capital Quiz

Capital Quiz is a free online geography quiz that tests how well you know the world’s capital cities. Each round gives you ten countries, one at a time, and four possible capitals for each. Pick the right city before the 15-second timer runs out. Faster answers score more points, and three or more correct answers in a row earn a streak bonus.

You can play the whole world at once or focus on one region: Europe, Asia, the Americas, or Africa and Oceania. Over 100 countries are included, from easy ones like France and Japan to trickier ones like Kazakhstan, Myanmar and Tanzania. The wrong answers always come from the same region, so you cannot rule them out just by guessing the continent. At the end of every round you get a full review of every question and the right answer.

How to Play Capital Quiz

• Choose World or one of the four regions.
• Read the country name and pick its capital from the four options.
• On a keyboard, press 1 to 4 to choose an answer.
• Each question has a 15-second timer. Faster answers score more.
• Get three or more in a row for a streak bonus.
• After ten questions, review every answer and see your score.

Tips for a Higher Score

Watch out for the big-city trap. Many countries have a famous largest city that is not the capital. Australia’s capital is Canberra, not Sydney. Canada’s is Ottawa, not Toronto. Turkey’s is Ankara, not Istanbul, and Brazil’s is Brasília, not Rio de Janeiro. When an option looks too obvious, think twice.

Play one region at a time to learn faster. Use the review screen at the end of each round to note the capitals you missed, then play that region again. Some capitals have changed in recent decades, such as Kazakhstan’s move to Astana and Myanmar’s to Naypyidaw, and these are the ones most players get wrong.
